Having given up on getting some kind of cool retro telephone from the old days, because everyone else wants one too so retailers, eBay and even the charity shops have made them really pricey, we decided to just get a cheap one so that we have a phone, seeing as we’ve been paying for the line for the past 5 months.
Somehow, when we got to Argos, (the obvious choice for discount electrical appliances) I managed to convince Tom that we might as well get this Hello Kitty phone, which was just £1 more than a boring plain white phone. He said he would have thought differently about it if we’d realised as we did when we got home and unpacked it that it’s not white, as it appears on the box, but is in fact pink. Oh well, too late.

This is my new bike, which will cost 40% less than the retail price through the cycle to work scheme. Thanks Labour Government of yore.
Also, it’s purple, and it has a basket, see?

It just so happened that the Cath Kidston sale started on my birthday - what are the chances?!
Birthday money + sale = pretty new things.
My haul included a new glasses case, a chicken cup to replace the same one I broke which was a present from Tom’s parents a few years ago, napkins for the party, a new bag, a shoe tidy, and a button box. Because everyone knows your shoe tidy should match your handbag.

If I lived in Berlin (or somewhere else that’s flat) instead of hilly Bristol, and they weren’t so darned expensive, I would really like to have a Pashley bicycle to replace my old orange mountainbike. They’re so oldy-worldy looking, which apparently has become a taste of mine which is not going away.
With just 3 gears, if you’re lucky, comapred to my current 21, this is not a practical bike for me, but thankfully, bike manufacturers understand the modern cycling lady’s need to get up hills whilst pretending she lives in the old days and wear skirts which don’t get caught in the spokes and land her face in the tarmac. Thus, they have created a hybrid bike, like this one, which I might get and add a basket to. The step-through style will also preserve my dignity, instead of trying to get over a cross bar whilst wearing leggings and a mini skirt.

I’ve been trying to think of an excuse to buy some Cath Kidston oil cloth for a while. Whilst visiting the kittens at their foster mother’s house last night, we agreed that a CK cat food mat would look rather natty and provide ample justification for spending £10 on half a meter of what is, essentially, just plastic, and will get covered in cat food. I’m torn between these various designs but am leaning towards the cowboys.

To cheer myself up following a series of disappointments over the last few days (sharing my kitchen with slugs; letting agents; not being the hot girl from the coffee shop) I might go and buy myself these shoes, because they’re pretty and not very expensive, and I’ve been looking for some like that to replace my favourite ones that I had to throw away when they finally fell apart from over-use when I put them in the washing machine. While I’m in the Cath Kidston shop, I will try not to also purchase this bag - which is not inexpensive, and which I cannot justify, but which is very pretty - but I make no guarantees.
Update: I now own these shoes. I also bought some pretty napkins. I do not own the bag but I will. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon.
Update II: These shoes are rubbing my little toes the wrong way. They sure are pretty though.

We’ve got a land line for the first time, so now we’re looking for a phone. But we don’t just want any phone, we want a retro one that is a reflection of our tastes and personalities (obvs), so to eBay we go…Tom seemed genuinely depressed when he lost the auction for this black one. I want the diner one, to further feed my obsession with 50s Americana, but apparently it’s a bit OTT.

I like the old-timeyness of this country lane near Tom’s parents’ house in Somerset. It’s about time the daffodils came out, so I celebrated by taking a picture when we were there this weekend, and it was a nice sunny day. We also saw some adorable piglets in a farmyard when we went for a walk after lunch, which I tried not to think about when we were cooking sausages the next day, even though mine were derived from vegetable protein and not piglets. Anyway - yay, Spring!
